Smart Textiles Hackers Lab
This interdisciplinary collaboration between the Sewing Studio and Studio Praxistest focuses on exploring and integrating smart textile technologies into artistic projects. This involves utilizing technologies that enhance fabrics and textile objects mechanically, thermally, chemically, electrically, magnetically, or in other innovative ways. Examples include using fibers or yarns for electrical conductivity or absorbency, and creating or modifying textile surfaces with CNC machines such as embroidery machines, laser cutters, cutting plotters, or 3D printers. The lab emphasizes the exploration and development of these processes for use in art and design, and their practical applications in a school setting.
The workshop is led by Paul Reza Klein and Walter Lunzer, who bring together their expertise in robotics, mechanical engineering, and digital manufacturing, as well as their industry and educational experience, interweaving and entangling their specialized knowledge.
