Workshop: Weaving as a form of listening
Marei Loellmann
In the block seminar Weaving as a Form of Listening with artist Marei Loellmann, weaving was explored as a space for dialogue. The seminar began with the question of how weaving – both as a craft and as an artistic medium – can provide a foundation for conversational and collaborative working methods. The process of weaving, with its inherent slowness, was examined as a potential space of experience and possibility that can heighten perception of both external and internal environments.
Inspired by the Deep Listening practice of composer Pauline Oliveros, a series of weaving scores were developed and tested in public space over the course of the workshop. These scores functioned not only as creative frameworks but also as tools for mindful, embodied engagement with space, time, and material.
The works and reflections that emerged during the workshop were compiled into a collaborative zine, serving as both a documentary record and a poetic archive of the seminar.
