Workshop: Popticum — Soft Assemblies
November 6-8, 2024
What potential do inflatable textile structures hold for reimagining public spaces? How might soft, adaptable environments alter our interactions with one another? During a three-day workshop, Maxie Schneider and Lorenz Kuschnig from the POPTICUM collective, supported by Ebba Fransén Waldhör and the team from the department of Textiles – Free, Applied, and Experimental Artistic Design, designed a textile inflatable made with leftover materials from an out-of-business clothing company. Using the University of Applied Arts Vienna as a starting point, they created an alternative experiential space for social gatherings.
POPTICUM is a collective of architects and designers that specializes in creating temporary spaces that blend art and architecture. Their work encourages shared experiences and helps people engage directly with their surroundings, aiming to rethink how we use and experience space.
