T/exkursion: ANATOMIE IN MASCHEN

KATHARINA SABERNIG at JOSEPHINUM

How can medical, anthropological, and artistic perspectives be interwoven into textiles? These questions are explored by physician, anthropologist, and artist Katharina Sabernig in her PEEK project Knitted Body Materiality, based at the Department of Textiles – Free, Applied and Experimental Artistic Design and funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).

As part of a special exhibition at the Josephinum, the historic repository for medical wax models, Katharina Sabernig guided art education students through her work. Her knitted anatomies offer a new interpretation of bodily materiality and textile structures, making complex scientific topics accessible in a visually engaging way.
