What potential do textile, inflatable structures hold for the appropriation of public spaces? How do soft, adaptive spaces transform the ways we interact with one another?

In the three-day workshop with Maxie Schneider and Lorenz Kuschnig from the collective POPTICUM, supported by Ebba Fransén Waldhör and the team of the Department of Textiles, a textile inflatable for social encounters was designed from reclaimed materials sourced from an insolvent factory. Using the Angewandte as a starting point and experimental field, a shared design process enabled the conception of an alternative spatial experience within the institution.

POPTICUM is a collective of architects and designers who create temporary spaces at the intersection of art and architecture. These spaces facilitate collective experiences and open an immediate dialogue with their surroundings. Through its interventions, POPTICUM aims to break down barriers and create a platform for critically questioning established routines.
