It weaves through the soil, forms huge networks, and makes nutrients available again: mycelium. As the vegetative part of fungi, it is a living, growing material that builds, binds, and shapes structures. What would a textile material look like if it were not woven, knitted, or sewn, but grown? And what aesthetic or performative possibilities might emerge from such a paradigm shift?Ranging from living surfaces and hybrid material composites to temporary, biodegradable spatial structures, this experimental hands-on workshop introduces the fundamentals of mycelium biofabrication. Participants will investigate processes between control and growth and develop initial prototypes and speculative applications at the intersection of art, design, and ecology.
